monthly wrap up: january ’19

montlhywrapup

Hello, fellow bloggers!

Today, I’m bringing my first monthly wrap-up. These are some of my favorite posts to read, and I’m sure there are more than a few popping up in your guys’ feeds today, but I still wanted to share one myself.

January has been BURNING HOT in my country. It’s currently summer here, and I haven’t been able to remember what is it like to live off of ice-cream and air fans. Can we get winter here, already?

HIGHLIGHTS

  1. I got into my dream university! I took my last college entrance exam earlier in the month, and the results finally came in last week. And I did get in my dream university, studying the one course I was most excited to! It’s a huge achievement for me, because it’s one of the most prestigious institutions in the country. On one hand, it’s been amazing, but on the other, I’m still trying to get used to the amount of people paying attention to me, lol.
  2. img_0297I’m back into journaling. I finally figured out how I want to documment my new year, and I decided that I’ll be journaling about some of the books/movies/shows I watch in 2019. It was one of my goals for the year to journal more, and I’m excited about it.
  3. I watched Black Mirror – Bandersnatch and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it. I feel like this is a common trend with most Black Mirror episodes: they’re extremely thought-provoking. But I have never watched the show before, and was only interested in the movie because it was said to be interactive. And now though my first experience was a bit frustrating (I kept choosing the ‘dead end’ choices and I had to constantly go back and make them again), I still felt the need to rewatch it multiple times just to see how many different endings I could get.

WHAT I READ:

January was such an amazing reading month. I read only phenomenal books and couldn’t have asked for a better way to start the year!

WHAT I POSTED:

LOOKING FORWARD

My classes in university start only at late February, so I’m hoping to take the month to just enjoy my free-time. I plan on reading and blogging a lot, as well as journaling more and dedicating myself to my WIP. I finished the outline in January, but I’ve been procrastinating the *actual* writing process.

How was your January? What are you mostly looking forward to next month? And if you have watched Bandersnatch, which ending did you get the first time around?

  2. Looks like you’ve had a great month! Congrats on getting into the university you wanted! I started Bandersnatch but the guy jumping off the building was a huge trigger for me and I haven’t been able to finish it yet :(

    • Thank you so much!
Ohhhh, I feel you. It was quite an unexpected thing, and I feel like there aren’t many trigger warnings for the movie, as it applies for only certain storyline/choices. I hope you finish it if you can!
Thank you so much for your lovely comment! ❣️

That is a very good reading month I hope the rest of the months are like that too. 😊

    • Oh, yes! I’ve been having a looooot of ice-cream. A little bit worried about my health, though, but not enough to stop, hahahah.
I really hope you enjoy Bandersnatch! Let me know which ending you get, because I’ve been obsessed with talking to people about i.

  4. Hi Lais! Congratulations on getting into your dream university, *and* getting the course you love to study too — that must feel amazing ❤️ I’ve gotten back into daily journaling this January too, and I’m reminded of how much I love journaling — there’s just so much you can learn about yourself throughout the process of writing and reflecting. Your journal seems much more colorful and creative than mine, though — I just use a pen and pencil to write and that’s all. 😊 I hope you have a wonderful month of February as well!

    • It really was an amazing feeling to get the results! Thank you sooooo much!
I definitely understand the feeling of being inside your own head when journaling, in touch with your thoughts and feelings. I think that’s why I love to add so many decorations: it’s one of the few instances in which I let my creativity flow and see where it leads me, with no planning behind it.
Thank you for the lovely comment! Wishing you an amazing February! 💛

    • Thank you soooo much! I’m excited, but nervous about it. It’s a new feeling and I’m going to experience a lot of new things, but I think it’s for the better!
I hope you do so! It’s my favorite books of all times and this re-read just solified my love for this work. I hope you enjoy it when you pick it up.
Thank you so much for the lovely comment! 😊

    • Thank you so much!
Journaling can be so much fun! I really hope you get around to it; it’s been my favorite way to be creative & not worry so much about whether or not it’s perfect, since I won’t have to share it with the world (unlike blogging, for example).
Hope you have an amazing February! And thanks for the comment! 💛

  5. Oh congrats on getting into your dream uni!! THAT IS AMAZING!! You must be so hyped and proud! 🎉🎉I have heard a lot about the Bandersnatch thing but not seen it?! I should honestly look it up because I’m curious haha. And yess for rereading Ari and Dante 😍 I most desperately want to as well!

    • Thank you sooooo muchhh, Cait! I’m definitely hyped, hahah. But also scared because now there’s all this new university world I’m about to unravel and it’s definitely intimidating!
I think you’ll enjoy Bandersnatch! It’s quite dark and the experience can be a bit frustrating, but ultimately it’s fun being able to choose your own path.
Thank you so much for your comment! 😊

  6. Lais, you sound like you had such a great month! Congratulations on getting into your dream uni, I am BEYOND EXCITED FOR YOU! You absolutely deserve it, and I hope things go smoothly!

Your journaling is so pretty I LOVE IT AHHHH *heart eyes*

Also, I’m so so happy you loved American Panda! It was so good and my second fav of the year, so it’s always lovely to see others enjoying it as much as I did! The Way You Make Me Feel was also super enjoyable and I’m glad you enjoyed it! All the Asian books make me so happy :)))

Happy reading, and wishing you all the best for February!

    • Thank you soooooo much, Taasia! ❣️❣️❣️
And for the compliments on my journaling, ahhhhhhh thanks! Though I’ve only taken pictures of my favorite pages, because there are others who look hideous, hahaha. But that’s why I enjoy doing it so much; I don’t have to worry about making it look perfect, since I’ll be the only one seeing it.
American Panda was phenomenal! It really made me excited to read more Asian-American authors; I have quite a list, and I hope to get to them soon!
Thank you so much for the comment! Wishing you a great February too! 💛
